Blind Contour Monotype

  • Self-Portrait

    Monotype, 2011, 11 x 7

This is from a portrait series I created in my Monotype class last semester. I did a blind contour portrait of several of my artists friends and included different imagery that would suit artwork that they create. I also used colors that would best represent the artists I was portraying in order to make it more personal and about them than about me so much. I’ve always found blind contours interesting because it involves looking carefully and intensely at the subject, but most of the time ends up being only an idea of the person and not quite “looking like them.” But they’re tons of fun to do.
